In 1941 in Essex County, New Jersey, "Dancing Don"
and Pauline Petrin established Petrin Amusements.
"Dancing Don" was my grandfather's fight name. He
was a light heavy weight, who had three bouts with "two ton Tony" Galento,
with two draws and a lose on a split decision. He also lost on a split decision
to Maxie Rosenbloom, world light heavy weight champion from California.
"Poppa," as he was called, was well known in the
area, which helped him as a sales rep for the family business. But his wife
Pauline ran the business even before he was stricken with Parkinson's Disease,
and Nanny, as she was known, was the kindest, most generous person I have
ever known.
In the early 1970s my father, Rober E. Petrin,
Sr., took over the company, joined by myself in 1977. We've been amusing the
area ever since!
